Octomore single malt has defied perceived whisky wisdom since its launch in 2008. Matured for five years, always super-heavily peated and bottled close to cask strength, Octomore’s surprising elegance has led us to define it as The Impossible Equation. An experiment which pushes the boundaries of whisky making, the latest series explores the influence of terroir, cask management and peat levels on the final flavour – with each single malt having its own distinct and unique character.

The .1 expression is always matured in bourbon or American Whiskey barrels but each year the flavour profile changes, showcasing the impact that terroir and the shifting weather patterns of Islay’s rugged coast have on a single malt matured for its whole life at Bruichladdich Distillery.

Octomore 17.2 is distilled from the same batch of 100% Scottish mainland concerto barley as the .1 expression. But instead of being matured in bourbon barrels, it has spent four years in second-fill French oak that latterly matured bourbon, then finished in first-fill Port barriques.
